Amid scorching temperatures and a relentless heat wave, international evangelist Doug Batchelor delivered messages reigniting Seventh-day Adventists in the city of Hyderabad, in Telangana State, India. The heat did little to deter the enthusiastic crowds who flocked to the revival meetings held at Dan Harris Memorial Church and the open grounds beside it, May 2-4.

With a fervor matching the intense weather, Batchelor delivered powerful messages centered around the theme, “Preparing for the Endtimes.” He ended on the final day by talking about the significance of what he called a “Jordan experience” in one’s spiritual journey.

Drawing from scriptural narratives, his own life experiences, and apt illustrations, Batchelor emphasized the need for individuals to urgently prepare for the end and engage in Christian duty as the “Elijah” of the last days. On the final day, he appealed for every one to cross their personal “Jordan River,” as the Israelites, Elijah and Elisha, and Jesus did, symbolizing a commitment to leaving behind the old life and embracing a new one with Christ.

The response from the attendees was overwhelming. Many were deeply moved by Batchelor’s words and said they were inspired to take the step of faith toward a renewed relationship with Jesus Christ. Throughout the three-day event, there were numerous testimonies of lives transformed and hearts renewed.

"I have never felt such a strong pull towards accepting Jesus as my Savior until I heard Pastor Batchelor speak,” one attendee, who described the experience as “life changing,” said.

For others, the revival meetings provided a much-needed spiritual awakening during challenging circumstances. “In the midst of this heat wave and all the troubles around us, Pastor Batchelor’s message gave me hope and a renewed sense of purpose,” another participant shared.

“I feel I am living in Bible times,” Jesin Israel, a seminary professor at Spicer Adventist University, said. “I have worked in Hyderabad for nine years, and I have never seen such a response even on Sabbath afternoon.” Israel was referring to those who stayed during the afternoon despite the 45 °C (113 °F) heat.

Despite the adverse weather conditions, Batchelor’s visit to Hyderabad left an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of those who attended. His messages resonated deeply with many, stirring a desire for spiritual renewal and a commitment to following Christ.

As the revival meetings ended on May 4, there was a palpable sense of joy and anticipation among the attendees. Many left with a newfound sense of faith and determination to live out the principles Batchelor taught during his time in Hyderabad. Around 30 people, mostly young people, responded to the call to accept Jesus as their personal Savior.

The impact of Batchelor’s visit is expected to be felt long after his departure, with many pledging to continue their spiritual journey and share the message of hope and salvation with others in their communities. In the face of adversity, Batchelor’s message of faith and transformation proved to be a beacon of light for the city of Hyderabad.
