After years of hard and committed work, Tokyo Adventist Hospital has recently obtained certification from the Joint Commission International (JCI), an organization that evaluates health-care facilities globally. JCI assesses medical institutions using international benchmarks, striving for ongoing enhancements in care quality and patient welfare.

The hospital remains dedicated to upholding a system that ensures patients receive medical treatment with unprecedented reassurance, the health-care institution’s leaders recently said.

“We have undergone an assessment to maintain a system that ensures patients receive medical treatment with even greater peace of mind, while elevating the standard of medical care,” hospital leaders shared.

The audit preparation spanned a number of years. “The JCI audit required several years of preparation, leading to the establishment of the JCI secretariat and the Quality Control Office,” leaders shared. “The entire staff, under the guidance of the secretariat, quality control office, and department heads designated for JCI audits collaborated seamlessly to enhance the quality of health care for our patients.”

While the hospital’s collective endeavor has been directed toward “enhancing the quality of health care for our patients,” the focus has also been on achieving JCI accreditation, leaders reported. Overall, they said, “our objective extends beyond acquiring JCI certification.

“Rather than fixating solely on JCI accreditation, we aim for growth to consistently provide superior medical care to our patients. We view this certification as not an endpoint but a fresh beginning,” the leaders explained.

The JCI certification symbolizes not just a culmination but a new commencement, hospital leaders said. “Our commitment remains unwavering to serve every patient in line with our ethos of ‘caring for each individual with the compassion of Christ for the restoration of both mind and body,’ ” they said. “We will persistently strive to enhance patient safety and medical care quality.”
