More than the sun can produce

That’s Power

According to what I could find on the web, the world has a global energy demand of about 320 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) per day.[1] And with the world’s ever-increasing population,  both this demand and the global electricity demand (part of the global energy demand) are steadily rising.[2] That’s a lot of power! This is next to nothing, however, when compared to the amount of power emitted by our sun every single second. From what I could find, the sun produces incomprehensibly more power than our world consumes, every single second. About 3.8 x 1026 watts (380 trillion trillion watts) is produced by our sun every second.[3] That’s trillions of times more power than the entire world uses in a single day! These numbers boggle our human minds; that’s a lot of power.

The Bible reminds us in Genesis 1:16 that “God made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He made the stars also.” The Maker of the sun is the Maker of us all; He truly is all-powerful. God literally spoke, and the sun, with all of its burning, bright brilliance, came into shining existence. As we reflect on this, and turn our eyes to the New Testament, we see Jesus. God in the garb of humanity, walking among us, ministering to us, committed to our salvation. And the Bible ascribes to Him a wonderful title; John 1:1 says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Jesus is the Word. The Word of God made flesh (John 1:14). He is the Creator of all things (Col. 1:16), “for He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast” (Ps. 33:9). God is so powerful that when He speaks, worlds come into being. That’s incredible power!

Whenever we prayerfully open the Bible to read its divinely inspired pages, the same power of the Word of God that created this world is unleashed in our lives!

“The creative energy that called the world into existence is in the Word of God. This Word imparts power; it begets life. Every command is a promise; accepted by the will, received into the soul, it brings with it the life of the Infinite One. It transforms the nature and re-creates the soul in the image of God.”[4] The Bible is inspired by God, or “God-breathed,” as the New International Version puts it in 2 Timothy 3:16. This means that whenever we prayerfully open the Bible to read its divinely inspired pages, the same power of the Word of God that created this world is unleashed in our lives!

Satan knows full well the power of God’s Word. He watched God unleash the power of His creative Word when He spoke our world into existence. He knows full well what God’s Word can do in a person’s life too. God is able to save from the “guttermost” to the uttermost! For this reason he seeks to divert our time and attention from the prayerful study of God’s Word, that God’s power may be unrealized, and unexperienced by His children on earth. May God help us to never forget that He is an all-powerful God, mighty to save! And may we commit to a daily study of His Word so that we can experience the amazing power of God in our lives also.
