The conflict between Ukraine and Russia has had devastating humanitarian effect. It has caused displacements of Ukrainians as well as people who lived near the borders of neighboring countries.

Most of the people who evacuated their homes and headed for the borders were only able to bring with them what they were able to carry. Many of the refugees ended up walking long distances as the transportation system broke down and the infrastructure of roads and bridges was severely damaged. When they reached the borders, they were greeted by long lines and had to wait up to 20 hours before crossing the border.

Refugees were taken in by many European countries, including Italy. Among these, 37 families housed in the Florence area recently received food packages. On the day of delivery, Municipality of Florence council member Titta Meucci said, “Today, the Civil Defense of the Municipality of Florence, with the help of several volunteer and aid organizations, delivered food packages to 37 Ukrainian families in difficulty, which are housed in private accommodations. This is a concrete help for 105 people, of which many are children.”

“Special thanks also to ADRA Italy, a humanitarian agency of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, which packed the items from the food bank,” Meucci added.
