Juice to Your Health

These recipes incorporate a variety of fruits and vegetables, which, as we all know, are very good for us. They also require the use of a juicer. We cannot guarantee results if using a blender. If trying to improve your overall health, consuming these juices should not take the place of medical advice from your practitioner. As always, if you have allergies or food sensitivities, please take them into account before trying these recipes. —Editors.

I had never really been into juicing. It either seemed too expensive, too time-consuming, or, honestly, too difficult to find combinations that tasted good!

During this quarantine, I’ve been able to slow down and reflect on my health. I realized that with the busyness of the previous semester, I let my intentionality slip away when it came to eating healthful meals. After talking to my boyfriend about this, he decided to surprise me by sending a juicer in the mail. Since then, he and I have enjoyed challenging each other to create recipes that are not only nutrient-dense, but tasty! Needless to say, I am hooked, and I’m excited to share three of my favorite summertime juice recipes with you.

Kale Away

4 green apples

¾ cucumber

2 kiwi

4-5 big handfuls of kale

¼ inch of ginger (adjust to your liking)

Yield: 1 quart-sized jar

My favorite part about this drink is that it is green, but not “too green.” With several handfuls of kale, this drink is loaded with antioxidants and vitamins, while also remaining somewhat sweet with the addition of the green apples and cucumber. The kick of ginger not only ties the flavors together, but aids in digestional health, making it perfect for feeling energized in the morning.

Beet Down

3 large carrots

1 beet (peeled)

3 oranges

3 red apples

*Optional: Add some ginger to your liking.

Yield: 1 quart-sized jar

The color of this juice is just one of the amazing things about it. With a combination of carrots and beetroot, this juice promotes heart and immune health: amplifying blood flow and detoxifying the body. The oranges and apples mix in for a refreshing taste while contributing vitamin C and potassium. This one is my personal favorite.

Vitamin C-Surge

5 grapefruits

8 oranges

1 lemon

Yield: 1 quart-sized jar

If you’re in need of some vitamin C and crave tart flavors, this is the drink for you! This juice is thirst-quenching and delicious! One of my favorite ways to serve this juice in the summertime is blended with ice.

I should point out that this one is higher in sugar as well as natural citric acid, so it’s best to drink it in moderation. That’s fine with me—the longer I can make it last, the better!
