Once a week, after finishing his homework, 10-year-old Jhosep Carrión and his mother, Teresa, set up the living room of their home to welcome other children from the neighborhood and offer them Bible studies. Jhosep and Teresa are members of the La Encantada Seventh-day Adventist Church in the district of Villa El Salvador, in Lima, Peru.

When they were going through a challenging time with family problems, Teresa said, God helped them get through it. Also, she emphasized, members from her local Adventist church visited them often to pray for their situation at that time. Meanwhile, they persevered in their faith and began to study the Bible.

Soon after, Jhosep began attending the Adventurer’s Club. He is currently a member of the “Jesus’ Command” Pathfinder Club in the Villa El Salvador E church district, which is part of the Central South Peru Mission (MPCS), the administrative headquarters of the Seventh-day Adventist Church for the south of Lima and other nearby cities in Peru.

Little Missionary Making Disciples

Jhosep continues to put Christ’s method into practice, local church leaders said, and his young neighbors visit his home every week in good spirits. They include Yanira, Michael, and Alexandra, who have decided to give their lives to God through baptism after receiving Bible studies from Jhosep and his mother. The parents of these children are not Adventist church members, but they support their children learning more about God and make positive comments about the regular topics of study. Some of them are beginning to show an interest in attending church.

“I feel very happy,” Jhosep said. “I like to preach and teach my friends topics related to the Word of God” When he grows up, Jhosep would like to follow the example of well-known Adventist preachers.

The Kids Evangelism Project

Jhosep learned about the Kids Evangelism project through his Adventurer Club classes at his local church. His teacher saw in him a gift to preach and share God’s Word and encouraged him to be part of this strategy of the Adventist Church that aims for children to develop their spiritual gifts for the fulfillment of the mission, local church leaders reported.

With the consent of his parents and the support of his mother, Jhosep continues developing and honing his skills as an evangelist.

“At his young age and according to what he can understand, my little son is telling his friends that Jesus is coming soon,” Jhosep’s mother shared. “The whole family supports him.”

The Seventh-day Adventist Church places special emphasis on discipleship of the new generations, regional church leaders said, “praying and acting for the future of gospel preaching and the salvation of more people.”The original version of this story was posted on the South American Division Spanish language news site.
