Brooksville Church Renovated by Volunteer Group

HERNANDO TODAY staff report

For the past two weeks, about 40 volunteers have been working to renovate the Brooksville Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Florida.

The volunteers, with California nonprofit Maranatha Volunteers International, travel from all over the United States to work sites, said David Schwinn, a volunteer from Oklahoma.

The church hosts the group of 40 volunteers, Schwinn said, and provides visitors a place to stay and meals in exchange for their work.

The volunteers at Brooksville Seventh-Day Adventist Church, installed a new roof on the church and an adjacent building, painted and added new lighting in the church.

Schwinn, an engineer, said he has worked on about 70 projects with Maranatha since retiring in 1999 around the U.S. and internationally.

"I enjoy working with people," Schwinn said.
