When Morning Gilds the Skies
by

“Don’t be surprised–or troubled–if your understanding of grace takes longer to emerge than all the ‘instantaneous’ stories we tell. The light of grace is usually a dawn, not a lightning strike. As we come to know the depths of our own broken darkness, we begin to hunger for the grace of Christ ‘more than watchmen for the morning’ (Psalm 130:6). Jesus has so ordered it that we are warmed by grace and dazzled by its joy long before we can show how fully the Word teaches it, or adequately explain it to another. Grace is as patient as it is good: it teaches us a kindness toward our own historic blindness. So stay in grace.”
