The Washington Post Names Adventist HealthCare a Top Workplace

by

Adventist HealthCare earned a spot on The Washington Post’s list of Top Workplaces 2023 in the Washington, D.C., area. It was the only hospital system on the list of 199 honored employers from public and private industries, nonprofits, and government agencies. Beyond the healthcare sector, Adventist HealthCare was one of only 17 organizations that The Post honored in the largest company category.

Rankings are based on a survey of employees conducted by The Post through its research partner, Energage LLC. The anonymous survey asked employees to rate their companies in areas related to workplace culture, including connection, leadership, engagement, pay, and benefits. The Post invited 6,500 employers in the region to participate.

In announcing the ranking, The Post noted Adventist HealthCare’s dedication to providing quality healthcare as a faith-based, not-for-profit organization. When asked about their work, The Post reported that Adventist HealthCare employees spoke of “feeling fulfilled, of helping patients, and of serving the organization’s mission.”

“We are honored that during a national shortage of healthcare workers, our team members have chosen to work at Adventist HealthCare,” Adventist HealthCare president and CEO Terry Forde said. “Their commitment to extend physical, mental, and spiritual healing — especially given the ongoing challenges stemming from the pandemic — is a testament to their sense of shared mission to serve our community.”

One of the largest employers in Montgomery County, Maryland, United States, Adventist HealthCare has been offering health services to the Washington, D.C., region since 1907. The health system’s comprehensive approach to promoting whole health includes nurturing their employees. “This honor truly recognizes how our leaders care for their team members and team members care for each other,” Brendan Johnson, senior vice-president of human resources for Adventist HealthCare, said. “We build this culture of trust, collaboration, and fulfillment through a focus on our mission, values, and growth opportunities as well as a full range of programs to support total well-being. We strive to be the best place for our team members to work and grow.”

Adventist HealthCare includes more than 6,300 employees and more than 2,000 physician partners to serve patients in in the D.C. region with comprehensive care. The system includes three acute care hospitals, two rehabilitation hospitals, two community cancer centers, and offers expertise in the areas of heart, orthopedics, maternity, mental health, imaging, and home care services.

Adventist HealthCare, based in Gaithersburg, Maryland, is one of the longest-serving health systems in the Washington, D.C., region and one of the largest employers in Maryland. It includes Shady Grove Medical Center, White Oak Medical Center, Fort Washington Medical Center, Adventist HealthCare Rehabilitation, Home Care Services, Adventist Medical Group, Imaging, and Urgent Care.
