The Costliness of Grace
by

“Grace isn’t much about our comfort and contentment: no rescue that depends upon a crucifixion should ever make us comfortable. Initially ecstatic about deliverance from death, we slowly grasp what saving us cost Jesus. The sordidness of what we’ve done; Christ’s choice to be our battered Substitute—these stir solemnity that never takes grace lightly. The holy terror Isaiah wailed—‘I am undone!’—is answered by a holy joy when we hear Jesus crying from His cross, ‘It is finished!’ Grace is best known while on our faces, singing ‘Worthy, worthy is the Lamb!’ So stay in grace.”
