How did you do?
Whether you got all four right or didn’t come close, there’s plenty more to discover.
For roughly 160 years the Seventh-day Adventist Church has recorded and published detailed statistics about its membership and growth. But much of that information has traditionally been presented in lengthy tables, often in small print, making it difficult for the average church member to explore.
The new Adventist Statistical Atlas presents this information in a different way. Drawing on official church statistics published by the Office of Archives, Statistics, and Research in the Annual Statistical Report, the website uses interactive maps and graphics to show where Adventists live, how the church is growing, and how its presence varies around the world.
Let’s take a closer look at what you can discover.
Where in the World Are Adventists?
Have you ever wondered where Adventists make up the largest share of the population? Or where they are relatively few?
The atlas offers several ways to explore the church’s global presence. Its interactive world map allows users to select divisions and countries to view membership statistics. Another visualization compares Adventist membership with population figures, showing approximately how many people there are for every Adventist.

For example, in the Southern Africa-Indian Ocean Division, which includes countries such as Zambia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa, approximately one in every 53 people is an Adventist member. In Guyana, part of the Inter-American Division, the figure is even more striking: about one in 12 people.

These figures reveal significant differences in Adventist membership around the world. While they cannot tell us who has or hasn’t heard the gospel, they can invite us to consider the mission opportunities that remain.
A Closer Look at Each Division
The atlas also allows users to explore and compare statistics across the church’s 13 world divisions. Beyond total membership, readers can examine annual baptisms, regional population, number of churches, and even Sabbath School and worship attendance statistics.

For example, the South American Division has more than 2.7 million members, compared with approximately 850,000 in the South Pacific Division and 370,000 in the Northern Asia-Pacific Division. Yet the Northern Asia-Pacific Division serves the largest population of the three, with more than 700 million people.
These comparisons offer a broader picture of the church’s diversity and the different contexts in which Adventists worship and serve.
Bringing It Closer to Home
Wonder what’s happening in your own part of the world?
The atlas also allows users to explore statistics for individual unions, conferences, missions, and fields. With 839 entities represented, readers can search for a particular area or sort results by data such as membership growth rate.

Whether you’re curious about your home conference or a mission field halfway around the world, there’s plenty to discover.
Explore for Yourself
Together, these figures tell a larger story about the Adventist Church. They reveal where the church has grown, the communities it serves, and the work still to be done.
The atlas makes that story easier to explore. It currently provides annual data, with plans to introduce quarterly updates and, eventually, potentially real-time reporting.
Now it’s your turn. Visit adventistatlas.org and see what you can discover.
Here’s one final challenge: Which conference in your division had the highest membership growth rate last year?
