The 2025 Alps2Ocean ride raised more than AU$93,000 (about US$59,000) for ADRA Australia, ADRA New Zealand, World Bicycle Relief, and The Fred Hollows Foundation.

Spanning seven days and covering approximately 300 kilometers (186 miles), the ride took 60 cyclists and their supporters through some of New Zealand’s most breathtaking landscapes, from the towering southern Alps to the stunning coastal scenery of Oamaru. Riders battled headwinds, tackled challenging climbs, and soaked in the camaraderie of a group united by a shared purpose.

“This incredible effort will contribute to life-changing projects, providing food relief and bicycles for communities in need, and restoring eyesight to those who would otherwise go without treatment,” said founder Craig Shipton.

Each morning, and in the lead-up to the ride, participants received information and inspiration from Darren Morton, based on Live More Happy.

Who Is 25000spins?

25000spins has been managing tailored charity cycle events since 2009.

“We started with a goal to raise 25,000 pounds to help reduce the shocking statistic that 25,000 children die each day from things money can solve. We wanted to solve this by doing roughly 25,000 leg spins per day on our first adventure from London to Athens [4,000 kilometers, or 2,500 miles],” Shipton said.

“25,000 children, 25,000 reasons, 25,000 pounds and 25,000 leg spins per day. Hence the name 25000spins. Since then, as a collective team, we have raised more than AU$7 million dollars (US$4,430,000), helping people around the world to live a better life.”

Looking ahead, 25000spins has exciting future rides planned in 2026, 2027, and 2028, including the Adelaide Classic (four days), the Kingscliff Classic (northern New South Wales, four days), London to Paris (seven days, culminating in the final stage of the Tour de France), the Swiss Adventure (seven days), and the Alps2Ocean Ride (returning for another incredible experience).

A Journey Beyond the Ride

For many, the Alps2Ocean ride wasn’t just about cycling—it was a full experience of personal challenge, connection, and giving back. Mark Tagg, a first-time participant, shared his thoughts:

“As a first-timer I was a little anxious about the ride—whether I’d trained enough and how I’d handle the climbs. The whole experience turned out to be way better than I thought. I hadn’t really considered the social aspect of putting 60 people together—sharing rooms with different ones every night, enjoying dinners out, relaxing, and getting to know new people over the seven days. The charity aspect, fitness pursuit, the ride itself, and the social dynamics are all a genuine highlight for me.”

Another first-time Alps2Ocean rider and 25000spins participant, Robyn Entermann, also shared her enthusiasm:

“It was my first 25000spins, and we loved every minute. The support staff are just amazing! We met so many awesome people. I enjoyed the down time activities (swims, hike, and paddleboarding). The award dinner was a highlight. Will definitely do another one.”

Joe Tyler, another rider, summed up the experience simply: “Epic! Truly an enriching experience at many different levels. It’s adventure with purpose, and I’m keen to do another 25,000spins ride soon!”

Mark, Robyn, and Joe’s experiences reflect what makes this event truly special: the blend of personal achievement, lifelong friendships, and the knowledge that every kilometer ridden is making a tangible difference in the world.

The Impact of AU$93,000 Raised

The funds raised will go a long way in supporting those in need:

  • ADRA Australia and ADRA New Zealand: Providing emergency relief, sustainable development, and support for vulnerable communities.

  • World Bicycle Relief: Supplying bicycles to individuals in rural areas, improving access to education, health care, and economic opportunities.

  • The Fred Hollows Foundation: Restoring sight to people with preventable blindness through surgeries and medical interventions.

Looking Ahead

The Alps2Ocean ride continues to grow, bringing together riders of all backgrounds to experience the beauty of New Zealand while making a real difference.

“Whether it’s your first time or you’re a returning rider, this event is more than just a challenge—it’s an opportunity to be part of something bigger,” Shipton said. “A huge thank-you to everyone who participated, fundraised, and supported this year’s event. Here’s to another successful ride in the future!”
