06CN: New President at Oregon Conference

New President at Oregon Conference
capAl Reimche, formerly vice president of administration for the Oregon Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, accepted the executive committee's February 19 invitation to serve as Oregon Conference president, the conference has announced. Reimche immediately assumed those responsibilities.
The new conference president fills the position previously held by Don Livesay, now Lake Union Conference president. No successor for Reimche has yet been announced.

Al Reimche

Reimche not only served the Oregon Conference as vice president of administration for seven years, but also has a diverse record of ministerial service throughout the Northwest and Canada over the course of 35 years as ministerial director, senior pastor, youth pastor and elementary teacher.

Reimche told conference staff he was confident in God's call to this position. He said, “I accept with excitement, because of the strong team we have throughout the Oregon Conference, but also [with] some apprehension because I believe decisions made and directions taken in the coming months and years are crucial to God’s calling. ... God has tremendous plans for His work here in the Oregon Conference, and I want to join you right in the center of His will as we together carry out His commission.”
After the February 19 meeting at which Reimche was invited to assume the presidency, Max Torkelsen II, North Pacific Union President, commented on how the day went. “I felt the meeting was Spirit-led and that the process went very smoothly,” Torkelsen said. “We paused several times throughout the day to pray, together and silently.”
Seventh-day Adventists have been active in Oregon since 1874. Today, more than 34,000 baptized members worship weekly in 149 churches, companies, and groups throughout the conference. The Oregon Conference also operates 36 schools.
